How to get rid of stubborn pet odors in 4 easy steps

by Jessica Britt

Taking care of a pet is a huge responsibility. But, one thing is certain - whether they are dogs or cats, our life is more beautiful thanks to them.

Numerous studies have shown that pets make us happier and healthier. No wonder scientists have come to this conclusion if we think about how cute puppies, cats and any other pets are.

We all agree: a furry companion can have beneficial effects on your health. At any age!

However… Dogs and cats are living creatures, and sometimes they act like kids. Even if they have been trained, accidents may still happen. Maybe they are acting naughty, maybe they just want revenge on us for not giving them a cookie, maybe they want more attention. No matter the reason, we have to admit that the odors they leave behind can become unbearable.

Wondering how to get rid of bad smells and keep your house clean and fresh? Here we have a few useful tips for you.

1. Use natural solutions to eliminate the nasty odors

Avoid detergents. Why? Most of them may contain chemicals. When applied, they can destroy the surfaces. Besides, detergents could be harmful for you, as well as for your pet’s health. Natural solutions are more effective, are not dangerous and leave a pleasant smell in the house.

However, don’t forget that it’s important to always read the instructions about how you should use it.

2. Wash all the items your pet uses

The bowls that your pet eats should be washed as often as possible, and you should periodically take care of the basket in which it sleeps, to sanitize it very well.

If you have a cat, the litter should be washed once every 1-2 weeks, even if you have sand that absorbs odors very well and gently cleans dirty areas, you still need to wash it well with soap and water from time to time – as well as the shovel you use for it.

Your pet has a favorite place in the house, so you should make it a habit to clean it daily.

3. Choose a bed suitable for your pet

You may be tempted to set up a soft bed or couch, full of materials and blankets for your furry friend. But this is a mistake that will make cleaning even more difficult. Instead, choose a simple, waterproof and easy to clean bed. You can quickly wipe it once or twice a week and let it air out in the sun. It can also be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner to remove accumulated hair.

4. Last but not least… Keep your pet clean

To make your life easier and not sit with your vacuum cleaner in your hand from morning to evening, you should pay more attention to the hygiene of your fluffy friend. That means brushing and washing it regularly.

Washing cats can indeed be a real torment and leave them with a lot of scratches, but the good part is that they know how to take care of themselves. The biggest advantage? Cats aren’t even taken for a walk (especially apartment ones), to be filled with dust and mud.

For a healthier skin and fur, dogs should be washed only at certain intervals between washes and it’s recommended to wipe the fur with a damp cloth. You can do this right outside, during or immediately after the daily walk. Of course, puppies' paws should be washed after each walk before entering the house.
